This one came through our submissions and it’s some dope music I gotta share with you all. Deru recently release his “Mini-Mini-Me” 7″, and on it he collaborates with rappers for the first time. Featuring two Bay Area giants whose work has inspired the downtempo instrumentalist: Casual (Hieroglyphics) and Gift of Gab (Blackalicious). Casual turns “Spliff” into a celebration of his preferred method of getting high while on “Bad Bad Man” Gift of Gab drops his characteristic deep-voiced tongue-twisters over a vicious beat. Deru needs to get these guys to work with him some more because these are some killer tracks. The production is on point with killer beats and the lyrics/flows the emcees are laying down couldn’t get much better. It’ll be interesting to see where Deru goes from here, be sure to be on the lookout for more tracks from him and check out his latest material below…
“Deru feat. Gift of Gab- Bad Bad Man”

Actually, “Deru” or Benjamin Wynn has produced hip hop with rappers before, however he went by “Rockwell” at the time. This IS his first time making hip hop as Deru, but “Mini mini me” is far greater than his Rockwell stuff (just my opinion). Fantastic EP by the way, Deru is extremely talented, dude also writes scores for ballets, and maybe even writes music for some commercials if ‘m not mistaken. What I really like about him is the fact that he does a lot of different things really well, and it’s always very original.
