Montreal based musician and producer Miracle Fortress (Graham Van Pelt) has been making poppy electronic tunes since 2005. However, just this past year, Miracle Fortress released their long awaited sophomore album Was I The Wave? The album was created in complete isolation like Graham’s first, Five Roses, and reflects that in its intricate melodies that demonstrate themes of alienation, anonymity, and the desire for the assurances of intimacy. The tracks from Five Roses have an ethereal feel tinged with a childlike sadness. Was I The Wave? as a whole, seems to have evolved these feelings, adding a more mature darkness and jazzier beats. Check out these tracks from each of the albums, “Next Train” from Five Roses and “Everything Works” from the latter. Repeated listens are recommended.
