Zebra Katz: “Ima Read” (ft. Njena Reddd Foxxx)

 
While perusing through my twitter feed today I noticed Saul Williams, who we’ve posted before, sent out a link of the video above. After giving the video one view I was immediately intrigued and set out to find more about Zebra Katz. I realize this is a bit experimental and may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those of you that are into it, I know after one view you will be an instant fan. The song is made up of a steady beat while Zebra Katz and Njena rhyme in a serious/threatening slo-mo vocal tone. The video to go along with the song is wonderfully done, it provides the viewer with the visual images that develop the threatening tone of “reading” someone. From self releasing his lo-fi mixtape “CHAMPAGNE”, ZEBRA KATZ has come a long way with his debut release, “Ima Read” feat. Njena Reddd Foxxx. For those of you that want to know what “reading” is here’s their description: “But what does “Ima Read” even mean? Simply put, “reading” is an old voguing term describing someone verbally insulting an opponent about something not so apparent to the average viewer. A good reader could tear you apart with one simply sentence.” “Ima Read” has also been remixed in a variety of ways from the likes of J-Wow of Buraka Som Sistema, MIkeQ and B.Ames, Slick Shoota and Dj Sliink.
